I’m at my folks house in the country this weekend. This Sunday morning we went to two local markets.
The Yarra Glen farmers market at Yerring station was too bougie and lacked the no frills aspect I like in other farmers markets- fancy packaging and steep prices. I convinced my mother to buy me some white beans and radishes and we went halves in a whole pumpkin and bag of parsnip. We also got a loaf of organic spiced vinefruit sourdough which has rad ingredients like polenta and apple juice. I can’t usually afford organic produce :)
We noticed a sign for the Healsville market so took a detour to check it out. Very few stalls but worth the trip soley for the old Italian man who cures his own olives and sells them in old jars and plastic containers. I got a container for 3 bucks. So good. I intended to cure olives this year but the tree in my backyard never flourished and the trees in my neighbourhood didn’t really grow enough. I can’t wait to try it oneday. That market also housed ‘The Nut Lady’ who sells nuts, seeds and dried fruit.
When we got back to their place, Mum showed me all the vegetables she’s growing and let me take home some artichoke, broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower. I also picked a bag of lemons for warm lemon and ginger drink.
We cooked up some stuff from the garden mixed with things we’d bought at the market for brunch- I made mushrooms with pecans.
